Onions for hair growth?

Posted on: March 3, 2009

So Im looking for shampoo recipes when I come across one with onions in it? Im like onions in your hair for real? and it actually helps your hair to grow, say what?

I cant stand onions, I’ve hated them since I was a kid, if there in my food im picking them out, yeah people have always told me that there good for this and good for that, but I was like oh well.
But for my hair and applied topically ( so i wont have to taste it 🙂 yeah!) I can live with that, matter fact it sounds pretty good.

Heres some info that I found.

Relatively high levels of germanium, found in ordinary onions, work as oxygen transporters and can improve scalp circulation and assist in the effective delivery of various nutrients to hair follicles. When applied topically, onion preparations have heating and stimulating powers, thus regenerating hair roots and restoring the growth of healthy hair.

Ummmmmm….

Universally recognised healing qualities of onions include their antibacterial, cleansing, stimulating, and nourishing powers. Onions contain a number of beneficial minerals and vitamins, among which are all-important vitamins C and B6, sulphur, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and germanium. High amounts of sulphur in onions make them particularly effective in regenerating hair follicles and stimulating hair regrowth. In addition, naturally-concentrated sulphur compounds have been proven to show additional hair-restoring and even anti-carcinogenic properties.

Here are some simple recipes

Prepare a shampoo with little pieces of aloe vera and onion to wash the hair 2 or 3 times a week. To make it more effective use a rosemary or avocado pear conditioner to hidrate the hair

Chop half red onion, four cloves of garlic and two teaspoons of cinnamon. Boil everything in a pot about fifteen minutes and wash the hair with this infusion during four days without interrumptions.

Chop an onion and add it to the shampoo. Let it stand for fifteen days and use the shampoo as usual. Not only does it make the hair growth faster but it also makes the hair look amazingly shining.

I would combine them by doing the red onion, cloves and garlic mix with the aloe vera and onion shampoo mix. I wander if using different types of onions makes any difference?

another one i found, this one is a conditioner

Remove the outer, dry and brown skin of Onion and not the moist, inner one. Store them in a brown paper bag each time you use an onion. When you have about 2½ cups of lightly packed onion skins, put them into a pan and add 1 quart of boiling water. Cover and steep them for 50 minutes; then strain through a sieve.

After shampooing your hair, towel-dry it briefly. Then rinse several times with the onion skin rinse, before finally rising again with clear water. This rinse not only conditions your hair by giving it a much softer texture, but actually provides a lovely color to your own present shade.
