The blacker the berry……………..

Okay so I’ve been doing some researching and seeing what i can add to my hair regimen, first strenghten my hair and second to maintain moisture. In a previous post I had lamented how dry both my hair and my scalp felt.

So I have changed a few things in my regimen:

  1. I no longer deep condition over night, it was causing build-up on scalp which then led to my scalp being itchy and dry.
  2. I use okra has a deep conditioner, which i then follow up with a moisture rich deep conditioner.
  3. Im trying to minimize how much i manipulate my hair so for the last week and some, i’ve worn buns and puffs and just today a french braid type hair style.
  4. Im moisturing about every other night.

Umm thats it so far.

So I bet your wandering okra, why? It is apparantly a good protein treatment and can help strenghten and grow your hair. regal bal did a post on her blog that you can check out to see the process. So far its okay. The first time i did it, i left the okra in , not a good idea I ended up with dry flakes in some parts of my hair. Today is the second time ive tried it. My hair after washing, treating and deep conditioning felt really soft. So for now the okra is sticking around.

Second the crisco, this one is just an experiment, I had first heard about using this as a moisturizer on urbancurlz blog, its something that she does and loves. So I decided to try it today, I added my moisturizers and then sealed it with the crisco, after which i put my hair into like 18 bantu knots. I hope my hair is left soft and not greasy. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one. 🙂 I’ll let you guys know how it turns out.

So this post is going to be two-fold. First is just an update about the scalp itch thing that I blogged about before. I washed and soaked etc, and it seems to be getting better its not all there yet but I feel better about it now. The one thing that Im noticing though is that Im getting split ends and knots like mad. I just trimmed my ends and already there forming, so I have to do something about that now, apart from cutting those ends off which im doing, when i come across them. I already have an idea of a few things that i want to try but I’ll post about them when I actually do them. For now though, Im not doing any on shoulder styles, Im pretty much going to bun it or pony tail it. (Which right now is fairly easy for me as i have my hair in twists, I tell you its gonna be my signature style soon 🙂 )

Second thing I wanted to talk about, I wanted to ask you guys about good hair blogs that you check out preferably ones that are relaxed. I have a relaxed co-worker who needs information badly. Her current stylist told her she has to blow dry her hair everytime she washes it or it will revert back to natural. Messed up I know.

So I told her I would get some hair blogs for her (cuz you know im talkin about hair at work :), just can’t help it ) I only know a few though.

From short to long and thats about it. So post and comment some blogs that you would recommend for her.

Thanks ladies ❤

My roots are so dry and parched right now, and I don’t know where I went wrong. I oil my scalp with my herbal oil, which I usually find moisturizing, but its not doing it for me. I don’t oil my scalp everyday because i don’t want to get any build-up on my scalp (which is already acting up).

So my question is what do I do, to revive my hair and make it moisture rich again, with out loading on the product?

Suggestions….Anyone?…..please 🙂

So I rocked my first twist out today, or rather yesterday. It was very well recieved, mind you thats not why I did it. I did  it because I was gonna wash my hair after and I always miss a few twists if i try and pull it out at the time im going to wash.

Am I going to rock twists outs alot, no. I dont think so i felt that it was very drying on my hair and my ends got crusty so the only time I think i would do it is when its wash day.

As I said in the last post, I took out my “hair”, then I washed it, real quick, then I deep conditioned. I know you should deep condition on dry hair but seriously, my hair was smelling way funky, I had to wash it, i couldnt not.

So I deep conditioned over night, then this moring at about 10:30 I washed it out, after I conditioned and detangled in sections. ( I love doing this, it was so easy to plait up my hair after)

So my hair is just in plaits now, but Im going to style it later, when its almost competely dry.

P.s. My sister deleted the MJ pics, so I have to see if she has them saved somewhere else.

So I went to a Michael Jackson tribute concert/party last night. It was pretty big it was downtown. My younger sister was so into it, and my little brother was just lost,he couldnt see the stage and he didnt know any of the songs, poor kid 🙂

While i was there i noticed sooooo many people with natural hair,  i mean twist outs and curly fros, plain ol’ afros, dreds, twists it was a mecca of natural hair. I took a pic or two but I didn’t want to alarm people so I didn’t take too many.

All in all it was a good night, except for the weed and the rude, igonorant people who thought it was okay to push your way infront of somebody when theres no space. SMH.

I post some pics later after i get them off my camera

So I washed out my conditoner this morning, i had it for abou 12 hours. Ummm im not too impressed, i think my weave got better results than my hair and I wasn’t even focusing on it.

So I think in future I’ll do a olive oil with aloe dct with maybe a bit of conditioner. One thing I didn’t like was that even after standing under the shower for like 10 minutes, it didn’t wash away completely it feels like theres still build up and if i run my finger (aka scratch my scalp) Im left with stuff underneath my nails. When I do the oil treatment, my scalp is clear of all that stuff.

As I write this post Im deep conditioning, unfortunately I don’t have a soft bonnet, or else I would be done already 🙂 So I am going to do it overnight. I started the process late in the evening (cough…8’clock…cough) I don’t want to go to bed with wet hair, and risk the chance of mold or anything else that’s gross, Im going to leave it till tomorrow. If I have to go outside I’ll wrap my head in a scarf and call it a day. 🙂

For my deep conditioner I used, treseme remoisture conditioner, Avon african shea butter restorative hair mask, Avon mediterrean oilve oil conditoning hair mask and the Avon palm desert rose oil hair elixir. I have high hopes for this combo, the only thing im worried about is that it will be so good and I wont be able to recreate it, as Avon discontiuned the shea butter conditioner right after I ordered it.(Booooo)

well, good night

So I’ve come across a few weekly deep condition challenges, and Im really thinking of participating in one. My question is can one deep condition with a “protective style” aka weave? and if  you can, should you?

I saw a discussion on black hair forum where some ppl said that they deep conditioned once a week, co-washed daily or multiple times a day, then you had some who didn’t do a thing.

I think im going to try a deep conditioning session first and see how it goes, I did oil treatments before and i liked that, so did my scalp.

The weekly challenge is a must try for me.

I love this girl that’s all I have to say, oh and that she is such an enabler. 🙂 She reviews so many products that you can’t help but want to buy them. Check out a few of her videos. She has a youtube account, a fotki and a blog.
