Shampoo recipes

Posted on: October 17, 2008

I have been in search mode for the last day to two looking for basic shampoo recipes that I can add special ingredients to such as shea oil (yes it does come in oil form :D) silk peptide powder, honeyquat. Basically items that can make my shampoo more moisturizing and less likely to strip my hair. These recipes are taken from Natural Hair Care Guide.

Basic Customizable Shampoo

This is a very basic gentle shampoo recipe. You can customize it by choosing herbs that meet the needs of your hair.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unscented liquid castile soap
  • 1 1/2 cups spring water
  • 2 tablespoons dried herbs (1/4 cup fresh)
  • 1 teaspoon almond or apricot kernel oil
  • 3 drops essential oil

To make:

Place herbs in a clean mason canning jar with a lid.
Boil the spring water and pour over the herbs.
Cover and let stand for 15 to 20 minutes.
Strain the tea into a bowl.
Add the liquid castile soap and almond or apricot kernel oil and mix thoroughly.
Scent with essential oil and mix again.
Pour into a recycled shampoo bottle.
Shake before use.

  • 4 tablespoons Italian seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon almond kernel oil
  • 2 drops of your favorite essential oil (if you don’t like the sent)

To make:

Place herbs in a glass bowl.
Boil spring water and pour over herbs.
Cover and allow to steep 30 minutes.
Strain liquid.
Add castile soap and almond oil and mix thoroughly.
Add essential oils and mix again.
Store into a clean plastic container
